Seated Guard

Each game consists of a three minute round, a one minute break, and then another three minute round with the position of the players switched.


Attacking Player:

  • Position: Standing with one arm connected to your partner's torso inside their arm (underhook) with your other arm free.
  • Objective: Create hip to hip contact and lift your partner's feet off of the ground.
  • Constraints: No takedowns. Only elevate your partner.
  • Win Condition: Your partner is disconnected from the ground.

Defending Player:

  • Position: Standing with your partner's arm connected to your torso inside your arm with your same side arm hooked around their arm so that your hand is near their armpit.
  • Objective: Deny your partner access to inside space and hip to hip contact and lift your partner's feet off the ground.
  • Constraints: No takedowns. Only elevate your partner.
  • Win Condition: Your partner is disconnected from the ground.

Attacking Player:

  • Position: Standing in front of your partner with one of their ankles or shins connected to one of your legs and one hand connected to your legs.
  • Objective: Focus on breaking your partner's connections to your body, and progress past their knees to their thighs. Remain there as long as possible.
  • Constraints: Do not proceed past the thighs.
  • Win Condition: None

Defending Player:

  • Position: Seated in front of your partner with one of your shins or ankles connected to one of their legs and one hand connected to their legs.
  • Objective: Create meaningful connections to your partner's legs using your legs, hands, and arms. Use those connections to destabilize your partner to their hands or hips. If they go to their hands hold them there for as long as possible.
  • Constraints: None
  • Win Condition: None

Reset if defending player wins

  • Position: Standing in front of your partner with one of their ankles or shins connected to one of your legs and one hand connected to your legs.
  • Objective: Flatten your partner to the mat.
  • Constraints: None
  • Win Condition: Create chest to chest or chest to back contact.

Defending Player:

  • Position: Seated in front of your partner with one of your shins or ankles connected to one of their legs and one hand connected to their legs.
  • Objective: Create meaningful connections to your partner's legs using your legs, hands, and arms. Use those connections to destabilize your partner, bring them to the mat, and create chest to chest or chest to back contact.
  • Constraints: None
  • Win Condition: Transition to a position where your legs are connected to one or both of your partner's legs.

Reset if either player wins

  • Objective: Create meaningful connections to your partner's legs using your legs, hands, and arms. If you are able to gain control retain it for as long as possible.
  • Constraints: Do not sweep your opponent.
  • Win Condition: None

Top Player:

  • Position: Behind your partner with chest to back contact, a single leg wrapped around their torso with your foot covering their hip, one arm wrapped over their shoulder, the other arm wrapped under their armpit, and your hands connected.
  • Objective: Maintain chest to back contact while hunting for submissions.
  • Constraints: Do not puncture the second hook. Only close your legs around your partner while attacking an upper body submission.
  • Win Condition: Successfully submitting your opponent.

Bottom Player:

  • Position: In front of your partner with their chest contacting your back, a single leg wrapped around your torso with the foot covering your hip, one arm wrapped over your shoulder, the other arm wrapped under your armpit, and their hands connected.
  • Objective: Use movement to create space and improve your position.
  • Constraints: None
  • Win Condition: Turn and face your partner by any means necessary.

Reset if either player wins.


6 Minute Round

Live round with a partner. Start standing if you are able to do so safely. Otherwise pick the starting position from one of the previous games and start there. Roll to submission, reset, and continue. Repeat as many times as possible before the round ends.
