Each game consists of a three minute round, a one minute break, and then another three minute round with the position of the players switched.

Morning Session:

Attacking Player:

  • Position: Behind your partner with one arm around their neck with the hand grabbing your opposite bicep. The hand of your other arm should be behind their head either on your opposite shoulder or the back of their head. Your legs should be wrapped around your partner's torso.
  • Objective: Maintain control for as long as possible.
  • Constraints: Do not choke your partner or finish the submission.
  • Win Condition: None.

Defending Player:

  • Position: Seated with your parther behind you with one arm around your neck with the hand grabbing their our opposite bicep. The hand of their other arm should be behind your head either on their opposite shoulder or the back of your head.
  • Objective: Focus on breaking the connections your partner has made to you with their arms, legs, and chest.
  • Constraints: None
  • Win Condition: Freeing yourself from their choke by turning to face or hiding your back.

Reset if the defending player wins.

Top Player:

  • Position: Behind your partner with chest to back contact.
  • Objective: Maintain chest to back contact for as long as possible.
  • Constraints: Do not connect your hands. You can grab anywhere on your opponnent but never connect your own hands.
  • Win Condition: None

Bottom Player:

  • Position: In front of your partner with your hands (or elbows) and knees on the ground and their chest contacting your back.
  • Objective: Use movement to create space and improve your position.
  • Constraints: None
  • Win Condition: Turn and face your partner by any means necessary.

Reset if bottom player wins.

  • Position: Behind your partner with chest to back contact and your hands locked around their waist.
  • Objective: Get your hands connected to the hips and shoulders simultaneously. Maintain chest to back connection and back exposure for as long as possible.
  • Constraints: Do not puncture hooks or submit your opponent.
  • Win Condition: None

Bottom Player:

  • Position: In front of your partner with your hands and knees on the ground, their chest contacting your back, and their hands locked around your waist.
  • Objective: Use movement to create space and improve your position.
  • Constraints: None
  • Win Condition: Turn and face your partner by any means necessary.

Reset if bottom player wins.

3 Minute Round

Live round with a partner. Pick the starting position from one of the previous games and start there. Roll to submission, reset, and continue. Repeat as many times as possible before the round ends.


Attacking Player:

  • Position: Standing in front of your partner completely disconnected.
  • Objective: Tag one of your partner's knees as many times as possible before the round ends.
  • Constraints: No takedowns.
  • Win Condition: None

Defending Player:

  • Position:Standing in front of your partner completely disconnected.
  • Objective: Focus on preventing your partner from touching your knees by using movement to create space and your limbs to impede their movement.
  • Constraints: No takedowns.
  • Win Condition: None

This game is continuous.

Afternoon Session:


Top Player:

  • Position: On your knees with your partner's legs around your torso and their feet hooked behind you.
  • Objective: Break your partner's grips and control of your upper body in order to gain upright posture.
  • Constraints: Do not attempt to open or pass your partner's guard. Do not stand.
  • Win Condition: None

Bottom Player:

  • Position: On your back with your legs wrapped around your partner's torso with your feet hooked together behind them.
  • Objective: Create meaningful connection with your partner and use it to control their posture. Do not let them gain an upright posture.
  • Constraints: Do not sweep or submit your partner. Only fight for grips and posture.
  • Win Condition: None

Top Player:

  • Position: On your knees with your partner's legs around your torso and their feet hooked behind you.
  • Objective: Break your partner's grips and control of your upper body in order to gain upright posture and then work to a standing position.
  • Constraints: None
  • Win Condition: Successfully standing up.

Bottom Player:

  • Position: On your back with your legs wrapped around your partner's torso with your feet hooked behind them.
  • Objective: Create meaningful connection with your partner and use it to control their posture. Do not let them gain an upright posture or stand.
  • Constraints: Do not sweep or submit your partner. Only fight for grips and posture.
  • Win Condition: None

Reset if top player wins.


Top Player:

  • Position: On your knees with your partner's legs around your torso and their feet hooked behind you.
  • Objective: Break your partner's grips and control of your upper body in order to gain upright posture and work to open their feet.
  • Constraints: None
  • Win Condition: Successfully opening your partner's feet.

Bottom Player:

  • Position: On your back with your legs wrapped around your partner's torso with your feet hooked together behind them.
  • Objective: Create meaningful connection with your partner and use it to control their posture. Do not let them gain an upright posture, stand, or open your feet.
  • Constraints: Do not sweep or submit your partner. Only fight for grips and posture.
  • Win Condition: None

Top Player:

  • Position: Sitting on top of your partner straddling their torso.
  • Objective: Trap your partner's wrist to the floor either on the same side or the cross side of their head to expose the elbows. Once the elbows are exposed extend the elbows away from the centerline towards the head or in towards the centerline by any means neccessary
  • Constraints: No submissions – only wrist pinning allowed.
  • Win Condition: Partner's elbows are exposed and extended or contracted.

Bottom Player:

  • Position: On your back with your opponent straddling your torso.
  • Objective: Keep your hands pointed at your partner's hips, work to destabilize your partner, and bring your knees back in front.
  • Constraints: None
  • Win Condition: Knees are brought back in front of your partner.

Reset if either player wins.


Two 3 Minute Rounds

Live round with a partner. Start standing if you are able to do so safely. Otherwise pick the starting position from one of the previous games and start there. Roll to submission, reset, and continue. Repeat as many times as possible before the round ends.

Rounds need to be extended in order to allow more exploration of the problem spaces and create more room for solutions to emerge.
